Implants

Implants are rods made of titanium which are installed inside the jawbone replacing the lost root. This rod will integrate with the bone in a period of 6 weeks to 6 months depending on the bone and the implant, and a crown would be mounted on top of it. Implant surgeries are usually performed under local anesthesia inside the dentist's office,  without any significant adverse effects.

Optimal results are gained in implant treatment, provided the applicant enjoys the following conditions:

  •  The bone of the region must be adequate in terms of its thickness, height, and density.
  • The applicant's oral health must be high with no gum diseases.
  • S/he must refrain from smoking.
  • S/he must not suffer from advanced diabetes, cancer, and other restraining diseases.

Post-Implant Care

Following implant, patients must observe hygiene optimally. Otherwise, the gums and bones surrounding the implant become infected and the implant would be loose just like a natural tooth and must be extracted.

Implant Supported Prostheses

When only one tooth has been lost, the missing tooth can be replaced by an implant. If there were many extracted teeth, however, implants can be used as the bridge abutments.

One application of implant is in patients who have lost their teeth for years and use artificial teeth. In such cases, the artificial teeth of the lower jaw become loose in the process of time as a result of the resorption of the jawbone.

The best solution for these patients is placing at least two implants near the canines of the lower jaw, with two attachments installed on top of them. These attachments are locked inside the artificial tooth thus preventing its looseness.
